Mention the name Marge and New Jersey art patrons instantly envision the watercolors of longtime Trenton resident and beloved artist, Marge Chavooshian. Marge was known nationally for her fresh watercolors and sketches: scenes from the Delaware Valley, Cape May and her many travels. A prolific artist, Marge left behind a massive body of work. Marge: A Preview is a tantalizing peek at some of her never-shown work, before a retrospective of her work planned for Ellarslie in early 2020.
Marge Chavooshian was born in New York City. However, she spent over 50 years as a resident of Trenton. She studied at the Arts Students League and with Reginald Marsh in New York then she worked as a fabric designer, Illustrator and teacher in public and private schools throughout Mercer County after moving to Trenton. During her career Marge was the recipient of 163 awards including American Arts Council, the Medal of Honor, scores of Best in Shows, purchase awards and the latest, an award in her memory from the recent Garden State Watercolor Society exhibit at Ellarslie.
Over the many years that Marge lived in the area, the Trenton City Museum was fortunate to have Marge included in many juried shows and small group exhibitions as well as presenting workshops and demonstrations as she enthusiastically shared her expertise with amateur and professional alike. This preview and sale is an opportunity to add a treasured Chavooshian to your collection.
